Cover image and logo

Setting the portal cover image and brand logo.

The cover screen is the first thing clients see when they open your portal. The cover image and logo are the two visual elements that define it. Getting these right sets the tone for the entire brand experience before a single asset is downloaded.

Both the cover image and the logo can be set when you create a portal and updated at any time afterward from the portal's settings panel — no republishing required.

Cover image specifications

The recommended cover image size is 1600 × 900 px (16:9 aspect ratio). Accepted formats are JPEG and PNG, with a maximum file size of 10 MB.

boveDAM displays the cover image at full viewport width on the cover screen. On wide monitors the image fills edge to edge; on mobile it scales down proportionally. Because the portal name and description text overlay the lower portion of the image, avoid placing important compositional elements in the bottom third. A clean midground subject — a product on a neutral background, a wide architectural shot, an abstract texture — works well in most cases.

Aspect ratio handling: if you upload an image that is not 16:9, boveDAM crops it to fill the 16:9 frame, centering the crop. For precise control over what is visible, pre-crop your image before uploading.

Supported formats and their trade-offs:

  • JPEG — best for photographs; smaller file sizes at equivalent quality
  • PNG — best for graphics, illustrations, or images with large flat color areas; lossless but larger files

There is no minimum resolution requirement, but images below 1200 px wide will appear soft on retina displays.

Logo specifications

The portal logo appears in the upper-left corner of the cover screen and persists in the navigation bar as clients browse the library.

Accepted formats are SVG and transparent PNG. SVG is preferred because it renders crisply at any scale and on any display density. If you use a PNG, export it with a transparent background so it reads correctly against both light and dark cover images.

There is no strict size requirement for the uploaded file, but a logo that is approximately 300 × 80 px at 2× resolution (i.e. 600 × 160 px actual pixels) displays well across breakpoints. Logos that are extremely wide or tall may be constrained by the navigation bar height.

A few practical notes:

  • Use your horizontal or landscape logo variant, not a stacked or icon-only mark, for the best fit in the nav bar
  • If your logo is white or light-colored, it will read clearly against a dark or photographic cover image; if it is dark, consider whether your cover image provides sufficient contrast
  • The logo is not the same as your workspace logo — it is set per portal, so different portals for different clients or brands can each carry a different mark

Updating after creation

To change the cover image or logo after a portal is created:

  1. Open the portal in the editor view (click Edit on the cover screen, or open the portal from your workspace dashboard)
  2. Open Settings in the editor toolbar
  3. Under Branding, click Change cover image or Change logo
  4. Upload the new file

The change is applied immediately and is visible to clients as soon as you save — you do not need to unpublish and republish the portal. See Publishing and unpublishing if you want to take the portal offline while making larger updates.
